• This brainware develops itself in new ways
every day, which further leads us to “Glomunication.”
The changes from the current industrial society to a
knowledge-based society are clearly denoted. What
is rarely denoted, however, is what this transition is
and what it means for the individual, for instance
what chances it offers the individual in this
economy.
In the future the industrial nations of the 21 st century
will offer more service and intellectual solutions
because the production of industrial goods will have
been taken over in large part by other countries that
were designated as “developing countries” in the 20 th
century. Some of this migratory production will
eventually make its way back to us, but we have to
make peace with the fact that we will be playing a
new role in the global marketplace and have more
opportunities to develop our brainware. This means
that instead of materials and products (hardware) we
can and must supply ideas and services (brainware)
if we want to keep our high standard of living in this
country. In my book I write: If we don’t have any
gold in the Earth, we have to find it in the people.
