As regards PTSD symptom severity, there were no statistically significant differences<br />

with regard to the kind of traumatic event experienced, indicating that the nature of<br />

the traumatic event was not related to PTSD symptom severity differences between<br />

assessment 1 and 2.<br />

However, PDS mean scores at A2 for those who were present when the incident took<br />

place (n=12) were significantly higher than for respondents who had found out about<br />

the event by other means (27.5 v. 14.64) (independent-samples t-tests). GHQ-30 mean<br />

scores at A2 were also significantly higher for those who thought that their daily life<br />

had changed (n=20), when compared with participants who did not think their life had<br />

changed (7.25 v. 0.4); and for those who stated that the event changed the way they<br />

felt about themselves (n=9) compared to those who did not think they felt differently<br />

about themselves after the event (8.06 v. 2).<br />

Paired-samples t-tests showed statistically significant differences in BDI-II mean<br />

scores between A1 and A2 for those who were there when the event took place (25.83<br />

v. 14.58); those who claimed that their daily life changed (22.25 v. 12.75); those who
