Ammonia Industrial Refrigeration<br />
In North America, the market for ammonia industrial<br />
refrigeration is already mature. More than half of all<br />
respondents (51%) believe the market share of ammonia<br />
is currently more than 50%. The growth potential<br />
for ammonia is therefore not as pronounced as for<br />
other natural refrigerants, as it is widely used today.<br />
Respondents predict that while ammonia will continue<br />
to largely dominate the industrial refrigeration market<br />
in the future, new technology developments and<br />
refrigerants could have a slight impact on its dominance.<br />

is now more commonly used in industrial<br />
refrigeration and its market share is growing rapidly in<br />
North America. 63% of the respondents are confident<br />
the market share will increase to 6-20% by 2015. A large<br />
majority (72%) believes CO 2<br />
industrial refrigeration could<br />
reach more than a 10% market share by 2020. Although<br />
most respondents do not think CO 2<br />
will dominate the<br />
future market (>50%), 35% still believe that CO 2<br />
could<br />
play a more important role in industrial refrigeration<br />
than it does now and that its market share could reach<br />
20-50% by 2020.<br />

Hydrocarbon Industrial Refrigeration<br />
Although 70% of the 110 industrial experts say the<br />
market share of hydrocarbons is less than 10% today, a<br />
clear majority (55%) indicate that hydrocarbons have the<br />
potential to account for more than 5% market share by<br />
2015, and 35% of experts believe hydrocarbons’ market<br />
share will be larger than 10% by 2020.
