Biographies<br />

Yves René Nanot has been Chairman of our Board of Directors since March 31, <strong>20</strong>04. He was Vice President of our Board from<br />

October 3, <strong>20</strong>03 to March 30, <strong>20</strong>04. He has been a Director of our Board since his appointment in October <strong>20</strong>02. He is also Chairman<br />

of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Ciments Français and a Director of Imerys, Provimi and Italcementi (in Italy), as well as<br />

Ciments Français’ foreign subsidiaries in the United States, Morocco, India, Thailand, Turkey and Egypt. He was appointed Chairman<br />

and Chief Executive Officer of Total France, then President of Total Refining and Marketing and member of the Total Group Executive<br />

Committee. He joined the Total Group in 1983 and was Chairman of Hutchinson S.A. from 1983 to 1989. He began his career with<br />

Dupont de Nemours in the United States and held various positions with the Company in France and Europe between 1962 and<br />

1983. Mr. Nanot is a graduate of the Arts et Métiers school of engineering (Paris) and has a MBA and PhD from the University of<br />

California at Los Angeles (UCLA).<br />

Jean-Pierre Clamadieu has been our Chief Executive Officer since October <strong>20</strong>03. From October <strong>20</strong>03 until March 31, <strong>20</strong>04, he also<br />

served as Interim Chairman of our Board of Directors. Prior to holding his current position, he served as President of the Pharmacy &<br />

Agrochemicals Division from April <strong>20</strong>03 until October <strong>20</strong>03, and he was President of the Fine Organics Division from January <strong>20</strong>02<br />

through April <strong>20</strong>03. In <strong>20</strong>01, he served as Senior Vice President for Corporate Purchasing, and between 1999 and <strong>20</strong>00, he was<br />

President of Rhodia Eco Services. From 1996 through 1999, he served as President of the Chemical Sector in the Latin American<br />

Zone for our Company and as Manager of the Automotive Pollution Control Project in the Chemical Sector of Rhône-Poulenc. He<br />

joined Rhône-Poulenc in 1993 to develop new activities in the area of automobile pollution control. Prior to joining Rhône-Poulenc,<br />

he was technical advisor to Labor Minister Martine Aubry between 1991 and 1993. Mr. Clamadieu began his professional career in<br />

1984 with various positions in French government agencies such as the regional industry and research office (DRIR) and the regional<br />

land-use planning department (DATAR). He holds an engineering degree from the École des mines (Paris, France).<br />

Aldo Cardoso has been a Director of our Board since July 28, <strong>20</strong>04, and currently serves as Chairman of our Audit Committee<br />

and member of our Compensation and Selection Committee. He is currently a Director of Orange, Gaz de France, Imerys and<br />

Accor. From <strong>20</strong>02 to <strong>20</strong>03, he served as acting CEO of Andersen Worldwide. He was Managing Partner for France until <strong>20</strong>02.<br />

He was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Andersen Worldwide from <strong>20</strong>00 to <strong>20</strong>01. He began his career as a consultant auditor<br />

in the Andersen Group in 1979, was named Partner in 1989 and was Director of the Audit Department, France in 1993, prior to<br />

taking responsibility for the European Audit Department and Financial Consultancy in 1988. Mr. Cardoso is a graduate of École<br />

supérieure de commerce de Paris.<br />

Pascal Colombani was appointed Director at the shareholders’ meeting of June 23, <strong>20</strong>05 and currently serves as member of our Strategic<br />

Committee. Mr. Colombani is Associate Director at A.T. Kearney and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Institut Français du<br />

Pétrole (IFP), Alstom and British Energy. He was Chairman of AREVA’s Supervisory Board until <strong>20</strong>03. From 1999 to December <strong>20</strong>02<br />

he was Chairman and CEO of France’s Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). From 1998 to 1999, he was Director of technology at the<br />

French Ministry of Education, research and technology, before which he spent nearly <strong>20</strong> years at Schlumberger in various<br />

positions in Europe and the United States, and becoming President of the Company’s subsidiary in Tokyo. He began his career at<br />

France’s CNRS Nuclear Physics Institute. Mr. Colombani graduated from École Normale Supérieure in France, Physics habilitation<br />

(aggrégation) (1969) and holds a doctorate in physics (1974).<br />

Jérôme Contamine has been a Director on our Board since March <strong>20</strong>04 and currently serves as a member of our<br />

Audit Committee. He is Senior Executive Vice President of Veolia Environment with responsibility for all cross-functional activities<br />

since <strong>20</strong>03. In <strong>20</strong>00, he was named Senior Vice President Europe/Central Asia of the Exploration-Production Division of TotalFinaElf.<br />

In the same year, he joined Vivendi Environment as Executive Vice President, Finance, and Director of the Management Board.<br />

He became President and CEO of Elf Norway in 1995, after being named Deputy to the Senior Vice President Europe/United States of<br />

Elf Exploration-Production in 1994. In 1988, he joined the Elf Aquitaine Group, where he served in several posts in the<br />

Finance Department. He began his career as a public auditor in the French Government Accounting Office, where he worked from<br />

1984 until 1988. Mr. Contamine is a graduate of the École polytechnique (1979) and the École nationale d’administration (1984).<br />
