Morrellville Theatre Fire
Caused by Cigaret
JOHNSTOWN. PA. — A two-alarm fire
which broke out early Thursday morning
last week at the Laurel Theatre in Morrellville
caused damage estimated at $500. The
fire, discovered shortly before 2 a. m.. had
smoldered for several hours and was caused
by a hghted cigaret butt which had been
thrown into a radiator well along the wall.
An accumulation of candy and chewing gum
wrappers finally caused the blaze which set
fire to the joists around the radiator, window
frame, sash and trimmings, plus a section
of the floor. The entire building was
filled with smoke when fireman arrived and
extinguished the blaze. The theatre is owned
by Walter M. Thomas and Mrs. Margaret
E. Gartland.
