Determine the duration and nature of repairs;<br />

Inform the vessel of predicted wind and weather and any known hazards;<br />

If possible, ensure that the position of the vessel is clear of traffic routes and<br />

other hazards and is located in good radar coverage area.<br />

3.8.11 Deviation from expected track and/or speed<br />

When aware of any deviation of anticipated or usual activity:<br />

Inform the vessel of your observation<br />

Ask if a problem exists<br />

Determine the full extent of the problem<br />

Determine the intentions of the bridge team<br />

Determine if assistance is required<br />

Ensure that other vessels are informed<br />

Continue monitoring situation<br />

3.8.12 Requirement for speed reduction<br />

A request or instruction issued to reduce speed should be results oriented. E.g. From<br />

my equipment your speed is 15 knots over the ground. REQUEST - proceed at a<br />

slow safe speed.<br />

3.8.13 Shipboard Communication Equipment Malfunction<br />

If communications with a participating vessel cannot be established:<br />

Attempt to call on VHF 16 and any other possible frequency that the vessel<br />

may be monitoring.<br />

Closely monitor the vessel‟s movements.<br />

Inform other vessels if appropriate.<br />

File a non-compliance report via an IRIMS Report.<br />
