Title: Watch Keeping Responsibilities Issue No. a<br />

6.6.1 Routine<br />

As soon as practicable after the beginning of each watch:<br />

Perform checks on each main and backup VHF transmitter/receiver frequency<br />

for signal strength and modulation.<br />

Check workstation lighting.<br />

Check the electronic logging system.<br />

Check the VTMIS.<br />

6.6.2 Special Check<br />

If at any time the electronic equipment controlled by the centre is believed to be<br />

malfunctioning or below standard, conduct a special equipment check. The results of<br />

this check shall be logged and reported to maintenance staff if the equipment is not<br />

operating to required specifications.<br />

6.6.3 Navigation aid check<br />

All navigation aids (buoys) in the vicinity of the Port Control Centre shall have their<br />

status monitored either continuously or at prescribed times.<br />

PCOs are required to forward any information regarding Navigations Aids to HM and<br />

Civil Works Department.<br />

6.6.4 Time Check<br />

Clocks in the Port Control Centre shall be checked and synchronized if necessary at<br />

the beginning of each watch.<br />

Any adjustments made shall be recorded in the log.<br />

6.7 Equipment Shutdowns<br />

Ensure that all equipment associated with workstation meets the operational<br />

requirements or is reported to maintenance staff.<br />
