11.1 Conclusions
Taking Lingshui Li Autonomous County and Dagan FLR demonstration area as
a case, this study constructed the systematic approach to FLR from the view of
regional-level. Key techniques in pattern analysis of forest landscape, analysis
on driving forces of forest landscape dynamics, degraded and secondary forest
characteristics and site-level restoration strategies were put forward. The main
conclusions are as follows.
11. 1. 1 The systematic approach to FLR
FLR initiatives should be implem<strong>en</strong>ted according to the following steps: analyzing
stakeholders, building support for FLR, understanding the landscape mosaic
and its dynamics, analyzing driving forces, id<strong>en</strong>tifying site-level options
and priority sites, developing site-level restoration strategies, making FLR
plan, and monitoring and evaluating. Stakeholder approach, balancing landuse
trade-offs, joint decision-making and conflict managem<strong>en</strong>t are the methods
involved in the steps. The" double filter" , public participation and adaptive
managem<strong>en</strong>t are the principles that must be followed in the whole process.
These methods, principles and above steps constitute the systematic approach
to FLR.
Stakeholders can be analyzed from characteristics, needs, interests, pot<strong>en</strong>tials,
degree of participation and other aspects. Building support for FLR is
to build the support of stakeholders for FLR initiatives. Forest mosaic and dynamics
can be analyzed according to the following steps: landscape elem<strong>en</strong>ts
classification, data collection and processing, landscape pattern analysis,
landscape dynamics analysis and prediction, driving forces analysis. Data of
