<strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Ann</strong> <strong>Arbor</strong> 2009–2010 <strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong><br />

programs/majors/minors and financial aid. After a student is enrolled at <strong>Concordia</strong>, courses taken at other<br />

regionally accredited institutions should be approved in advance and in writing through the Registrar’s Office.<br />

Facsimile and Electronic Transmission of Documents<br />

Faxed or electronically transmitted documents are not considered official documents. While these documents<br />

may be helpful in advising and counseling students, official documents, sent directly from the sending school’s<br />

registrar’s office to <strong>Concordia</strong>, must be received following facsimile and/or electronic transmission for<br />

<strong>Concordia</strong> to take official action.<br />

General Education Transfer Credit<br />

A transfer student who enrolls as a full-time baccalaureate student and has partially completed traditional<br />

general education requirements, shall complete the remaining core requirements with courses from <strong>Concordia</strong>’s<br />

General Studies Curriculum. Exceptions can be granted only through Michigan Uniform Undergraduate Guest<br />

Applications or a Petition for Substitution with the appropriate signature(s) of approval (both forms are<br />

available at the Registrar’s Office). An evaluation of transfer credit is done by the Registrar and may be<br />

appealed to the Vice-President of <strong>Academic</strong>s. Courses to complete general studies requirements are selected<br />

when preparing a degree completion plan with an academic advisor.<br />

Credits Earned During Military Service<br />

Veterans may receive appropriate credit for education preparation and experience acquired while in the armed<br />

forces. A veteran with an honorable discharge from active duty can receive such credit in accordance with the<br />

recommendations of the American Council on Education. Veterans should contact the Registrar’s Office for<br />

assistance and should submit a copy of their DD214 and an official military transcript (AARTS-Army,<br />

SMART-Navy/Marines, and Community College of the Air Force).<br />

Guest Credits<br />

Current students wishing to supplement <strong>Concordia</strong>’s curriculum offerings may consider attending other<br />

colleges on a part-time basis as a guest student . Written approval from the Registrar is required before<br />

enrolling in courses outside of <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong>–<strong>Ann</strong> <strong>Arbor</strong>. Michigan Uniform Undergraduate Guest<br />

Applications for all Michigan colleges and universities are available. The student is responsible for tuition<br />

charges and coordinating registration at the guest institution. These credit hours are not considered part of the<br />

student’s <strong>Concordia</strong> course load, unless a signed consortium agreement is executed through the financial aid<br />

office or an articulation agreement exists between the two schools. The student must request an official<br />

transcript to be mailed back to <strong>Concordia</strong> upon completion of the course.<br />

Earning an Additional Baccalaureate Degree<br />

Anyone who has already earned a baccalaureate degree from <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong>–<strong>Ann</strong> <strong>Arbor</strong> or any other<br />

regionally accredited college or university may apply for admission to seek an additional baccalaureate degree<br />

under the following conditions:<br />

The student must meet all degree requirements (including general studies) with the exception of the<br />

requirement for 128 credits; however, the student must earn at least 30 credits (beyond those used for any<br />

previous baccalaureate degree) at <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong>–<strong>Ann</strong> <strong>Arbor</strong>.<br />

Any major or minor included in a previous degree cannot be included in the new degree; however, a previous<br />

minor can be the basis for a new major.<br />

<strong>Academic</strong> Recognition<br />

Commencement with Honors<br />

Honors graduates receiving undergraduate degrees are acknowledged at commencement by gold-colored honor<br />

cords worn with the graduation gowns, by public announcement as they cross the stage, and also noted in the<br />

commencement program. These honors will also be designed on the student’s academic record and diploma<br />

upon graduation.<br />

Designation as an honors graduate requires that the degree candidate have completed at least 60 credit hours at<br />

<strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Cumulative grade point averages are based on<br />

coursework taken at <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong>, approved courses taken through the <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> Visiting<br />

Student Program and the courses taken through the Study Abroad Program. The specific honors levels are as<br />

follows:<br />
