Philosophy<br />

The philosophy curriculum at <strong>Concordia</strong> is based on the mission statement of the university. Philosophy is one of<br />

the fundamental disciplines in academia. It is that discipline which studies the most basic issues, and which also<br />

ties together the other disciplines. It sharpens critical thinking skills and gives students an understanding of the<br />

ideas that move society. The American Philosophical Association guidelines for philosophy majors emphasizes<br />

that there are four different models for the teaching of philosophy: the historical model, the field model, the<br />

problems model, and the activity model; all of which are utilized in the <strong>Concordia</strong> philosophy minor.<br />

Religious Studies<br />

<strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> offers an inter-disciplinary major and minor in the fields of religion and philosophy. These<br />

courses of study take into account the significant role that religion and philosophy have played in shaping the life<br />

and thought of people in both the Eastern and Western world. They offer students the opportunity to examine<br />

many of the religious and philosophical ideas that have motivated great movements and controversies which shape<br />

the spiritual and intellectual framework of the modern world.<br />
