Lafayette County speedway offers excitement every Friday night from mid April
to September for stock car enthusiasts.
On a quieter note, Darlington has a walking path along the river, three golf
courses in the area to choose from, suited for every level golfer, and great birding.
The headquarters for the national Blue Bird Society was once located here.
Darlington serves as the county seat and is home to one of the oldest
courthouses in the state of Wisconsin. Johnny Depp filmed a scene from his latest
movie “Public Enemies” in this historic courtroom. Tours are given daily during
working hours. Across the street is an original Carnegie Free Library that now
houses a wonderful historical museum. Darlington MainStreet is on the national
registry of historic places and provides a walking tour ending at the train museum
and local Depot. History comes alive the first weekend in May at Woodford State
Park as the Yellowstone Cap and Flint Club puts on the Bloody Lake Rendezvous
re-enacting life in the 1840s.
Wisconsin is known the world over for its fine cheeses. If you are interested in
touring a cheese factory, local cheese producer, Brunkow Cheese will show you how
cheese is made.
Darlington holds several festivals in the spring and summer. The first weekend
in May the community hosts the Cinco de Mayo Festival with vendors from all
around the upper Midwest. Canoe Festival is the second week of June. Started in
1966 the festival has turned into a 4-day event with something for everyone: canoe
races, a parade, music, games and more. The Lafayette County Fair, and Tunes at
Twilight are in July, and September brings the Fall Festival where Darlington is
“dressed” for fall, sharing their hospitality with visitors from around the region.
