Orchard Lawn/The Gundry House, built in 1868
on 11 acres overlooking the historic business
district, was the home of an early merchant
family in Mineral Point. This stately house
serves as a focal point for community activities
and as a museum for artifacts of Mineral Point
and Iowa County. It is open for tours May -
October and makes an elegant setting for
gatherings and festivities of all kinds
throughout the year.
GRANDVIEW – Former estate of Austro-Hungarian
Empire immigrant, Nick Engelbert, a dairy farmer,
story-teller and self-taught folk artist. A collection
of concrete sculptures, mosaics, and paintings
surround a small farmhouse.
LINDEN METH-
ODIST CHURCH -
Built in 1851 in the
fashion of Wesleyan
chapels in Cornwall.
The oldest Methodist
Church building in
continuous use in
Wisconsin.
WISCONSIN
MONTFORT ENERGY (WINDMILL) FARM –
(608) 623-2509. The Montfort Energy Farm is
located west of Dodgeville just off of Highway 18
between the villages of Cobb and Montfort. The
towering windmills sit on private property. Constructed
in 2001, the wind-farm went on-line as
each windmill was completed.
GOVERNOR DODGE STATE PARK –
(608) 935-2315. Three miles north of Dodgeville
on Highway 23. Five thousand scenic acres with
2 lakes, beaches, 266 campsites; horse riding and
snowmobile trails within the park; eight large group
camping sites.
HOUSE ON THE ROCK – SPRING GREEN
(608) 935-3639. Located on Highway 23 between
Spring Green and Dodgeville. Designed and built by
Alex Jordan in the 1940’s. The Main House on the
Rock is 400 feet above the valley with superb views.
Enjoy the Gate House, Mill House, antique collections,
and world famous music machines of bygone eras.
FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT’S TALIESIN.
On Highway 23 between Dodgeville
and Spring Green. Where the world
famous architect lived and worked in
Wisconsin. Guided tours of Taliesin
and nearby Hillside School
are available.
PENDARVIS – State
Historical Society’s
Pendarvis Complex.
The grouping
of restored Cornish
miner homes on
Shake Rag Street
is a credit to the
miners who built
them and early
preservationists
who restored them.
LANDS’ END – A 200 acre corporate headquarters
of Lands’ End Direct Merchants.
Tours available of the phone facility and video
tour of the company’s history and state-of-theart
distribution center. The Lands’ End Outlet
Store is in historic downtown Dodgeville.
CHEESEMAKING IN ARENA – In one of
the most northern parts of Iowa County,
on the Wisconsin River.
Visitors can view cheesemaking from a
glassed-in room at the Arena Cheese
company right on Highway 14.
