Say Cheese!<br />

Years ago, a cheese factory at every<br />
crossroads was as common as holes in a wheel<br />
<strong>of</strong> Swiss cheese. In the early 1900s, the number <strong>of</strong><br />
factories in Green County peaked at just over 200. Today,<br />
we are home to about a dozen factories, with several <strong>of</strong>fering<br />

Green County is home to the<br />
nation’s only Limburger cheese<br />
factory, and the only factory<br />
producing giant wheels <strong>of</strong> traditional<br />
Swiss cheese. Many other types<br />
<strong>of</strong> cheese are produced, including<br />
several types made exclusively from<br />
the milk <strong>of</strong> Brown Swiss cows. The<br />
Green County Agricultural Chest<br />
provides ambassadors known as<br />
“Dairy Queens” to promote dairy and<br />
other local agricultural products.<br />
What could be more<br />
complementary than enjoying some<br />
locally brewed beer along with those<br />
slices, curds, and wheels? Green<br />
County is home to two breweries<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering tastes and tours. Visit the<br />
Minhas Craft Brewery in Monroe. In<br />
addition to the flagship brand “Lazy<br />
Mutt,” they also produce beer under<br />
