River’s final stretch. The Blaine<br />

Bridge, which spans the <strong>Wisconsin</strong><br />

River between Grant and Crawford<br />

Counties, is the gateway to one <strong>of</strong><br />

the most beautiful and pristine<br />

regions <strong>of</strong> the state.<br />

Cassville<br />

Cassville, a <strong>Miss</strong>issippi River<br />

village along <strong>Wisconsin</strong>’s Great<br />

River Road, is nestled under the<br />

bluffs and along the banks <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Miss</strong>issippi River in a setting <strong>of</strong><br />

nature’s splendor. Travel here<br />

by scenic county roads, or ride<br />

the Cassville car ferry, seasonal<br />

operation June-October. From<br />

bald eagle watching in January<br />

and February to beautiful fall color<br />

in October, there is something to<br />

enchant every visitor any time <strong>of</strong><br />

the year. Cassville <strong>of</strong>fers all kinds<br />

<strong>of</strong> river recreation, hiking, biking,<br />

canoeing, fishing, and hunting.<br />

Nelson Dewey State Park, named for<br />

<strong>Wisconsin</strong>’s first governor, is located<br />

nearby, along with the Stonefield<br />

State Historic Site featuring: the<br />

Governor Nelson Dewey home site,<br />

the State Agricultural Museum, a<br />

1900 farmstead, and a 1900 village.<br />

Cuba City<br />

Cuba City is located on<br />

Highway 80 in southwest Grant<br />

County on the county line with<br />

Lafayette County, just north <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Illinois and Iowa state borders.<br />

A bicentennial project in 1975-76 –<br />

a presidential silhouette <strong>of</strong> each<br />

president, the state they were born<br />

in, and their time spent in <strong>of</strong>fice –<br />

has adorned each light pole in<br />

the downtown business district,<br />

along with an American flag. The<br />

presidential plaques have been<br />

updated a few times with the help <strong>of</strong><br />

local businesses and organizations.<br />

The Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce put this<br />

theme to work in 1993 by adopting<br />

it as the <strong>of</strong>ficial motto for the city,<br />

“The City <strong>of</strong> Presidents”. The motto<br />

was then painted on the water tower;<br />

a few years later new entrance signs<br />

were erected on the entrances to the<br />

city depicting the motto “The City<br />

<strong>of</strong> Presidents”.<br />

While in Cuba City, visit<br />

the newly remodeled Veterans<br />

Memorial Park, where a list <strong>of</strong> all<br />
