Orion Boat Landing
Orion Boat Landing is along Highway 60 just east
of the Muscoda Bridge. Here, too, launching your boat
or canoe into the Wisconsin River leads to a relaxing
and enjoyable experience. Exploring the islands and
backwaters of the Wisconsin River is an adventure
that will create memories for you and your family.
Viola Park
Viola Park is a great place for your next family
picnic. Use the shelter and grills to cook up some
good ol' Wisconsin brats and burgers, smothered
in cheese . . . yum! There is also an open area for
games, as well as restroom facilities.
Pine River
Public Hunting Grounds
The Pine River Public Hunting Ground is made up
of easements bordering on the west side of Highway
14 between Richland Center and Gotham. This is an
area rich in wildlife for hunting, fishing, and watching.
The principal wildlife you'll see includes duck, deer,
pheasants, quail, and sandhill cranes. Properties
are made up of marsh, forest, and farmland, and are
identified by Wisconsin DNR easement signs at lot
corners. The bike trail also runs through this area.
Lower
Wisconsin River Area
More than 3,200 acres of property are owned by
the DNR in Richland County, much of it bordering on
the Wisconsin River. The area is made up of lowland
brushy marsh, forests, and fields inhabited by duck,
deer, pheasants, quail, sandhill cranes, and more. The
area is excellent for hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing,
or watching wildlife.
As you travel through
Richland County . . .
Lone Rock is known as “the coldest spot in
the nation with the warmest heart.” This small town
celebrates Independence Day each
year with a well-established and popular
4th of July celebration that includes
baseball tournaments, arts and crafts, a parade, and
fireworks.
At the opposite corner of the county is Viola,
tucked into the hills along the winding Kickapoo River.
The “Bud Wheeler Horse Arena” hosts the Viola Horse
and Colt Show, held the third weekend in September.
Crowds of 15,000 enjoy a day filled with horse, tractor
and truck events, a parade, carnival, and an arts and
crafts show.
Along the countryside in this part of Richland
County you’ll see horse-drawn wagons from the Amish
settlements. Some commercial operations are developing
and products are available locally.
Continuing across the northern border of the country,
you'll drive through Yuba, well known for its fabulous
Bohemian cooks and interesting ethnic places to explore.
Cazenovia, at the northeast corner of the county,
boasts 54-acre Lee Lake – a favorite place for water
activities. Pan fish, largemouth bass, and walleye keep
fishermen happy and a special dock for handicapped
sportspersons is available. The third weekend in July is
