Heritage and
Culture
Many communities pay homage to
heritage with their efforts in historic
preservation, as evidenced by the bounty
of museums, historic districts, and
buildings awaiting your exploration.
Albany, Brodhead, Browntown, Monroe,
Monticello, and New Glarus all have
wonderful museums. Brodhead and
Monroe also have designated historic
districts.
Besides the ethnic attractions,
historic architecture, museums and
festivals, there are many other cultural
opportunities that can be sampled in
Green County. For example, you can
attend a musical performance, visit an
art exhibit, learn about the old-world art
of cheesemaking, or explore a restored
railroad depot.
Albany
Albany features small town friendliness and
charm with two bed and breakfasts, a scenic dam,
and easy access to both the Sugar River and the
Sugar River State Trail. Visit the Albany Historical
Society Museum for a glimpse of early Albany, with
displays on the pearl button industry, toys, cameras,
hats, and more.
Belleville
Plan to attend BamFest (Belleville American
Music Fest) in July or UFO Days on Halloween
weekend - complete with spooky activities
throughout the village.
Brodhead
Rich in railroad history, Brodhead welcomes visitors to the
city with their authentically restored Historical Depot Museum,
complete with an engine and caboose open for exploration.
Brodhead also serves as the southern entrance to the Sugar
River State Trail, with a shelter house, restrooms, and parking
area. In addition, there are a variety of restaurants to enjoy, along
with campgrounds nearby, a go-cart track, an airport, a bed and
breakfast, and several stores featuring Amish goods and furniture.
Brooklyn
Music lovers enjoy the bluegrass festival in summer, and
shoppers enjoy the arts and crafts fair right after Thanksgiving.
