NARI (0711) formed as a tropical depression over the<br />

sea far east of the Philippines at 12UTC on 11 September<br />

and moved generally northwestwards. It intensified into<br />

tropical storm at 00UTC and then rapidly developed<br />

into typhoon at 18UTC on 13 September. Nari attained<br />

its peak intensity with maximum wind of 185 km/h and a<br />

central pressure of 935 hPa at 12UTC on 14 September.<br />

Nari passed to the southwest of Okinawa and a number<br />

of people were injured. Nari then turned to move north<br />

and then crossed the southeastern part of Korea on 16<br />

September. Cheju Island suffered from heavy rainfall<br />

due to passage of the typhoon. 16 people were reported<br />

dead and missing and 13 people were injured. The<br />

total estimated damages were 230 million US dollars.<br />

Nari became an extra-tropical cyclone at 00UTC on 17<br />

September over the Sea of Japan.<br />
