The 213th Annual Council - Diocese of Virginia

Resolutions
David’s, Aylett and Church of the Creator, Mechanicsville, for which he was
the founding rector; and
Whereas, Mr. Townsend served as a chaplain in the Virginia National Guard from 1947
until 1977, when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel; and
Whereas, Mr. Townsend, after his retirement in 1977, was an active member of Trinity,
Lancaster, and a dedicated and inspirational part of the Body of Christ at
Trinity until his death, giving generously of his time, talent and treasure to
assure the future of Trinity; and
Whereas, Mr. Townsend served his Lord, his church and his country with loyalty,
generosity and vision and was dedicated to the growth and future of the
Episcopal Church; now therefore be it
Resolved, that the 213 th Council of the Diocese of Virginia joins with Region II and
Trinity Episcopal Church, Lancaster County, Virginia in expressing their
heartfelt thanks for the ministry of the Rev. Morton Townsend and in
celebrating his life among us.
CR-5 Mr. Sture G. Olsson
As adopted by the 213 th Annual Council.
Whereas, Sture Gordon Olsson, a life-long member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, West
Point, died on September 10, 2007, at age 87; and
Whereas, Sture Gordon Olsson served as a member of the vestry at St. John’s and a
pillar of the congregation, regularly attending worship, often accompanied by
his favorite canine companion; and
Whereas, Sture Gordon Olsson generously supported the Diocese of Virginia and its
bishops; and
Whereas, Sture Gordon Olsson was an honored graduate and a trustee of Episcopal
High School, receiving the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1992 in
recognition of his service, and served as a trustee of St. Margaret’s School,
Tappahannock; and
Whereas, Sture Gordon Olsson’s long and distinguished career in the paper and forest
products industry was marked by a deep concern for the environment and a
commitment to sound ethics in business; now therefore be it
Resolved, that the 213 th Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia celebrates the
long, committed and dedicated life of Sture Gordon Olsson as a Virginia
Episcopalian and as a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, West Point,
gives thanks for his life and works, and expresses condolences to his family;
and be it further
Resolved, that the secretary of this Annual Council send a copy of this resolution to the
widow of Sture Gordon Olsson.
CR-6 The Rt. Rev. Victoria Matthews
As adopted by the 213 th Annual Council.
Resolved, that the 213 th Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia gives thanks to the
services chaplain of this Council, the Rt. Rev. Victoria Matthews, bishop
in residence of Wycliffe College and former bishop of Edmonton. We are
grateful for her mirroring Christ to us through her presence and through her
meditations, and wish her safe travel home.
