January 27, 2007
• The Rev. Susan Goff, Ms. Martha High, Mr. Alexander Slaughter and the Rev. Daniel
Robayo were elected to three-year terms on the Standing Committee.
• Colonel Jean D. Reed, the Rev. Penelope Bridges and the Rev. Jesus Reyes completed
their terms on the Committee. (Ms. Holly Semple died shortly before her term was to
end at the 212 th Annual Council).
• The Rev. Dr. Hilary Smith was elected president and Ms. Sarah Bartenstein was
elected secretary.
February 15, 2007
• The Committee unanimously approved a request by St. James’, Leesburg to incur
indebtedness of $1.5 million for construction related to their “visioning process.”
• The Committee approved the resolution expressing appreciation to the four other
nominees for bishop coadjutor.
• The Committee consented unanimously to the ordination and consecration of the
Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Breidenthal as Bishop of Southern Ohio.
• The Committee consented unanimously to the ordination and consecration of the
Rev. Dabney T. Smith as bishop of Southwest Florida.
March 9, 2007
The Committee held a conference call with the Rev. Mark Lawrence to discuss his
election as the bishop of South Carolina, after which members of the Committee
privately discussed whether to consent to his consecration (Virginia’s Standing
Committee having withheld its consent by a previous vote). With assurances from Mr.
Lawrence that he did not intend to leave the Episcopal Church nor lead the Diocese
of South Carolina from the Episcopal Church, a majority of the members of the
Committee voted to give consent.
March 15, 2007
• The Committee consented to the ordination and consecration of the Very Rev.
Shannon Johnston as Bishop Coadjutor of Virginia.
• The Committee issued to the Standing Committees of the dioceses of the Episcopal
Church requests for consent for the Very Rev. Shannon Johnston’s ordination and
consecration as Bishop Coadjutor.
April 12, 2007
• The Committee consented unanimously to the holding of an election for a bishop
suffragan by the Diocese of Alabama.
• After ascertaining and considering the facts, the Committee determined
unanimously that the Rev. Huey Sevier had abandoned the communion of the
Diocese of Virginia and the Episcopal Church.
• The Committee approved Ms. Louise Blanchard, Ms. Whitney Zimmerman, Ms.
Lynn Holland, Ms. Elizabeth Rees, Mr. Fletcher Wells, Ms. Megan Hollaway, Mr.
David Kendrick, Mr. Kenneth Malcolm, Ms. Barbara Marques, Ms. Cassandra Burton
and Mr. Heewoo Daniel Han as candidates for Holy Orders.
April 24, 2007
On April 24, between meetings via e-mail, the Committee approved a line of credit for
St. James’, Leesburg.
