Juan Carlos Bustamante joined Bustamante & Bustamante as<br />

partner in 1968, and is regarded as having a significant role in the<br />

firm’s success and leadership. Dr. Bustamante was a Professor of<br />

Private International Law for almost 30 years, and is considered one<br />

of the best-respected transactional lawyers in Ecuador. His<br />

expertise has been crucial in the largest foreign investment projects<br />

developed in the last decade, including a billion-dollar private oil<br />

pipeline, and major investments in the electricity sector, oil and gas<br />

industries, and mining. An expert in tax and administrative law,<br />

Juan Carlos Bustamante has advised on international arbitration<br />

which is conducted under bilateral investment treaties and<br />

arbitration involving investors and State institutions. His working<br />

María Fernanda Saá-Jaramillo obtained her law degree from the<br />

Catholic University in Quito, Ecuador, and a LLM degree (1994)<br />

from the K.U. Leuven-Belgium, focusing on international and<br />

comparative tax law. She joined the Bustamante & Bustamante<br />

Law Firm as Associate Attorney in 2002. Prior to working at<br />

Bustamante & Bustamante, she served as legal advisor to the<br />

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Internal<br />

Revenue Service of Ecuador, and different local and foreign<br />

corporations in the country. Her main areas of practice are<br />

international and domestic taxation, investment and corporate law.<br />

She is in charge of the Bustamante & Bustamante Guayaquil<br />

branch. She is a member of the International Fiscal Association.<br />

Her working languages are Spanish and English.<br />
