Improvement Description<br />

Replacement <strong>of</strong> an existing conventional “dumb” irrigation timer with a<br />

weather-based “smart timer” irrigation controller. REQUIRED STEP (limit <strong>of</strong> 1<br />

per site)<br />

Replacement with a weather-based controller and implementation <strong>of</strong> specific<br />

irrigation distribution system improvements (may include both front and back<br />

yards).<br />

Replacement with a weather-based controller, and implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

irrigation distribution system improvements, and replacement <strong>of</strong> high water<br />

using plants, specifically turf grass with a choice <strong>of</strong> certain water-efficient<br />

landscape improvements from a Program <strong>Plan</strong>t List <strong>of</strong> California Friendly® and<br />

native species (plant replacement retr<strong>of</strong>its in front yards only).<br />

All sites that choose to participate in this Program must receive Retr<strong>of</strong>it Type A.<br />

Depending on the outcome <strong>of</strong> a pre-installation landscape audit performed by MRCD,<br />

sites may become eligible for Retr<strong>of</strong>it Types A and B, and/or Types A, B, and C.<br />

Participating sites may not receive Type B or C without having a smart timer (Type A)<br />

installed.<br />

The south <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> retr<strong>of</strong>it area is defined as the combined service territories <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following retail water agencies (Agencies) in the South <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> Integrated<br />

Regional <strong>Water</strong>shed Management <strong>Plan</strong> (SOCIRWMP) Area:<br />

• El Toro <strong>Water</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

• Laguna Beach <strong>County</strong> <strong>Water</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

• Moulton Niguel <strong>Water</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

• City <strong>of</strong> San Clemente<br />

• City <strong>of</strong> San Juan Capistrano<br />

• Santa Margarita <strong>Water</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

• South Coast <strong>Water</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

• Trabuco Canyon <strong>Water</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

A total <strong>of</strong> 29 homes have participated in this program with an additional 198 homes<br />

planned for participation.<br />

Turf Removal Program – This program is a partnership<br />

between MWDOC, Metropolitan, and local retail water<br />

agency. Through this program, residential and small<br />

commercial customers <strong>of</strong> participating retail water<br />

agencies are eligible to receive $1 per square foot <strong>of</strong> turf<br />

removed for qualifying projects. The goals <strong>of</strong> this<br />
