Admissions to primary school in 2011 to 2012 Returning your Wigan Council primary school application form You can hand in your form at any Wigan primary school. You will be given a receipt for your application. You will need to keep the receipt until you get a letter telling you that your child has a place at a school. Applying online You will receive an e-mail letting you know your application has been received. The e-mail will also show your preferences. You will need to keep the e-mail until you get a letter telling you that your child has a place at a school. If you have filled in any supplementary information forms you should return them to the school. 15 January 2011 15 January 2011 is the closing date for applications. We will only consider applications we receive by the closing date as on-time applications. February to April Your application will be processed. 26 April 2011 We will write to tell you the school we are offering your child. We will send the letter to you by first-class post and we will include a reply slip that you need to return to the school by 11 May 2011 to accept the place offered. If you don’t send it back by that date the place may be withdrawn and it may be offered to another child. Applying for a place at junior school Some schools are for infant (reception, year one and year two) children only and you will need to apply for a place at junior school. If you have a child in year two at infant school, in November you will get an admission to primary school booklet and a Wigan Council junior school application form. You should apply in the same way as described above and hand in your Wigan Council junior school application form at your child’s infant school by the closing date of 15 January 2011. If any of the schools you want is a voluntary-aided (church) school, you should fill in the school’s supplementary information form as well as the Wigan Council primary school application form and return it to the individual school.
Admissions to primary school in 2011 to 2012 If you put a voluntary-aided (church) school as one of your preferences and you do not fill in their supplementary information form, the school will not have all the information they need to consider your application and your child may not be given a place. We will decide on places in the same way we decide applications to reception class. See ‘Important information about how we decide which school to offer your child’ on pag. Late applications You need to return your application form or apply online before 15 January 2011. You must apply even if your child goes to a school nursery or has an older brother or sister at a school. If your application is late, we will only look at it after we have looked at all the applications we received on time. This means that your child is far less likely to get a place at the school you want if your application is late. In 2010, 90% of available places were given to children whose parents applied by the closing date. If you apply late, we may not write to you by 26 April 2011. However, we will write to you as soon as we can after that. If you have not been able to apply for a school place by the closing date or even after school places have been offered, please contact The School Places Team, who will be able to help you. Children going to nursery classes If your child goes to a nursery class attached to a school: they do not have an automatic right to a place in a reception class at that school; and you still need to send in your Wigan Council primary school application form or apply online by the closing date of 15 January 2011. If there are more applications than places, we will use the admission criteria to decide who we give a place to. The admission criteria for schools are different from those for nurseries.
