DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (EDC) @ SMa

The offi cial launch of EDC @ SMa marked
an important milestone in the development
of services and infrastructure to support
and encourage the growth of SMEs in SMa.
SMa was honoured to have Dr Vivian
Balakrishnan, Minister for Community
Development, Youth and Sports and
Second Minister for Trade and Industry as
the Guest-of-Honour to grace the launch.
EDC@SMa is the second Enterprise
Development Centre to be set up in
Singapore. EDC@SMa is the 5th centre of
excellence in SMa. The other 4 centres
are the e-Supply Chain Management
Council, GS1 Council, SMa School of
Management and the SMa Centre for
Corporate Learning.
LAUNCH OF SMa CALENDAR 2006

More than 150 members and guests
attended the launch of SMa 2006
Calendar cum Networking Session on the
15 December 2005 at the Ode to
Art Gallery.
The SMa 2006 Calendar featured some of
the fi nest original art pieces by young
Singaporean artists. The art pieces were
specially commissioned to feature SMa’s
logo and the 11 industry groups in SMa.
To promote charity amid the festivities,
SMa put up 200 pieces of the calendars
for sale. The proceeds from the calendar
sales and 30% of the sales of the art
pieces were donated to the Chen Su Lan
Methodist Children’s Home and the Bright
Hill Evergreen Home.
In addition, all SMa members and friends
were given a copy of the SMa 2006
Calendar as an appreciation for their
support.

COMMUNICATIONS
Media Relations
SMa is continuously building strong
relations with the various print and
broadcast media over the years. In 2005,
SMa garnered wide coverage for most
events. Strong media support was given
to key events such as the SMa Gala
Dinner, the launch of the Enterprise
Development Centre @ Singapore
Manufacturers’ Federation and the launch
of the SMa-DP Corporate Business
Centre. To elevate the image of the
manufacturing sector, SMa is working
closely with MediaCorp TV and Radio to
highlight and profi le the various
manufacturing industries through a series
of game shows on Channel 8.
Research
SMa conducted quarterly surveys on
business sentiments to gauge
manufacturers’ responses on their
operating environments, local and global
economies. Findings from these surveys
were used to assist manufacturers in their
business planning. A survey was also
conducted on the utilization of government
grants and loan schemes to gauge SMEs’
level of awareness of these schemes and
to understand the diffi culties they faced in
obtaining such loans. The fi ndings were
used to customize the services offered by
the Enterprise Development Centre. In
addition, regular talks on the outlook of the
manufacturing sector and the Singapore
economy were conducted at SMa and at
Suntec City in conjunction with
NewsRadio 93.8.
