ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONICS & ALLIED INDUSTRIES<br />
INDUSTRY GROUP (EEAI IG)<br />
The Electrical, Electronics and Allied Industries (EEAI) Industry Group<br />
(IG) is the largest industry group in SMa. Given the multifarious<br />
interests of its members, the group is divided into four Sub-Industry<br />
Groups (Sub-IGs). They are: Computer, Telecommunications &<br />
Information Technology (CTIT) Sub-IG, the Consumer Electronics &<br />
Electrical Products (CEEP) Sub-IG, the Industrial Electronics &<br />
Electrical (IEEP) Sub-IG, and the Supporting Industries & Services<br />
(SIS) Sub-IG.<br />
The objectives of the committee are:<br />
To identify growth markets (eg, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, China<br />
and Middle East)<br />
To assist members through SMa International Network<br />
To act as the communicator to the government agencies on issues/<br />
problems faced by SMa members<br />
To generate business opportunities for members through businessmatching<br />
among members and non-members<br />
To organise cross- networking events to network with other SMa<br />
IGs members<br />
HIGHLIGHTS<br />
On 7 April <strong>2005</strong>, the EEAI IG organised a seminar<br />
on “Revenue & Profi ts Growth Through Real-time<br />
Collaborative Systems”. Presenters from IBM<br />
and Comex Frontier showed how enterprise<br />
collaboration can help companies manage<br />
resources, relationships and processes. SMa<br />
members also gained valuable insights from<br />
Grocery Logistics of <strong>Singapore</strong> (GLS), a whollyowned<br />
subsidiary and logistics fulfi llment arm of<br />
NTUC Fairprice, who shared its success story on<br />
how it has achieved considerable cost savings<br />
and gain quantum effectiveness to its business<br />
by implementing real-time<br />
collaborative systems.<br />
An interestingly titled half-day seminar “E=MC2,<br />
The Formula for Success” on 28 October <strong>2005</strong><br />
imparted knowledge on the latest technological<br />
trends and opportunities, and best practices on<br />
how businesses can stay abreast in the fastmoving<br />
marketplace. Presenters from IDA,<br />
SingTel, Justlogin and Emerio Corporation shared<br />
their knowledge and experiences on how SMEs<br />
could adopt technology to achieve substantial<br />
cost-savings and greater effi ciencies in their<br />
business.<br />
The RoHS* Presentation cum Lab Tour was<br />
staged on 10 November <strong>2005</strong> at the premise of<br />
Setsco Services Pte Ltd to provide members with<br />
a better understanding of the RoHS directive and<br />
to facilitate their compliance with the directive.<br />
Signifi cant insights were gained, by the 55 SMa<br />
members who attended the session, from<br />
witnessing the testing of an actual sample from<br />
the preparation to the generation of a RoHS test<br />
report and a tour of the Environment, Food and<br />
Micro-contamination test lab.<br />
SMa EEAI IG members gained useful insights on<br />
the “Growing a Greener Asia” conference<br />
organised by the National Environment Agency<br />
Staged on 23 November <strong>2005</strong> at the <strong>Singapore</strong><br />
Marriot Hotel, the conference invited presenters<br />
from Japan, Germany, New Zealand and<br />
Australia who shared on their national policies,<br />
strategies and programmes on e-waste<br />
management.<br />
Problems relating to the implementation and<br />
business impact of a Pan-Asian approach to<br />
e-waste management were also deliberated<br />
during a panel discussion.<br />
