HIGHLIGHTS
a) Fire Safety Best Practices
(FSBP) Scheme
Fire doors & shutters form the fi rst line of
defence against fi re in a building. Effective
and properly maintained fi re doors &
shutters will contain and prevent fi re from
spreading, thereby allowing the occupants
to escape safely from the building and
facilitating fi re-fi ghting and rescue efforts
by the Civil Defence personnel.
FPSS IG initiated several working
committees by securing participation
from various stakeholders (SPRING
Singapore, PSB Corporation, Institution
of Engineers Singapore, Fire Safety
Managers’ Association of Singapore and
Real Estate Developers’ Association of
Singapore) to formulate a comprehensive
scheme to implement and adopt
standards and codes of practices on fi re
safety in Singapore. This was seamlessly
executed via the existing channels of
pre-qualifi cation, testing, quality assurance
and surveillance programmes such
as periodic inspections by Fire Safety
Managers and annual inspections by
SCDF personnel.
b) “Building and Construction Industry
Security of Payment Act” Seminar
Together with the SMa Building Products
& Construction Materials (BPCM)
Industry Group, the FPSS IG organised
the ‘Building and Construction Industry
Security of Payment Act’ seminar in
August 2005. The seminar invited legal
consultants from Rajah & Tann who
thoroughly analysed the impact arising
from changes in the Act pertaining to
developers, contractors, suppliers and
consultants. An ensuing dialogue session
saw the 110 participants shared their
views and had their long-standing queries
answered by the experts from Rajah & Tann.
