Highlights of the event:<br />

Barcode verifi cation is becoming more important<br />

as evidenced by the numerous requests by<br />

retailers in Europe, Australia and New Zealand for<br />

a comprehensive barcode verifi cation report. To<br />

meet the need, GS1 <strong>Singapore</strong> has conducted<br />

a Bar Code Verifi cation Training Workshop<br />

on 8 July <strong>2005</strong> at The Enterprise. Mr Bruno<br />

Rolland of Axicon UK, an expert on bar code<br />

verifi cation, raised the workshop participants’<br />

understanding on bar code verifi cation through<br />

his comprehensive and interesting presentation.<br />

Title: EPCglobal Industry Business<br />

Planning Session<br />

Main Organiser: GS1 Head Offi ce<br />

Highlights of the event:<br />

This event, attended by 20 technical staff from<br />

nine GS1 Asia Pacifi c Member Organisations<br />

(MOs), deliberated on GS1 MOs’ 3-year Plan for<br />

EPCglobal.<br />

US developed the 3-year Business Plan for<br />

EPCglobal and their accuracy in achieving the<br />

projected new membership target for EPCglobal<br />

US. The technical staff of GS1 Asia Pacifi c MOs<br />

benefi ted from the presentation by the EPCglobal<br />

US team.<br />

Title: Technical Training on GS1 Asia Pacifi c Bar<br />

Code Verifi cation<br />

Main Organiser: GS1 <strong>Singapore</strong> Council<br />

Highlights of the event:<br />

The inaugural Asia Pacifi c GS1 Technical Training<br />

on Bar Code Verifi cation, which attracted a total<br />

of seventeen delegates from seven GS1 MOs,<br />

was successfully staged on 21 July <strong>2005</strong>. The<br />

training was jointly organized with GS1 Head<br />

Offi ce in Brussels and conducted by Mr Raman<br />

Chhima, Technical Consultant of GS1<br />

New Zealand<br />

Mr Michel Vanderheijden, Chief Financial Offi cer<br />

of GS1 presented details of EPCglobal Business<br />

Development Plan by identifying the key drivers.<br />

At this business planning session, Mr Mike<br />

Meranda, the President of EPCglobal US and his<br />

team members, Mr. John Seaner, Vice-President,<br />

Industry Development of EPCglobal US and<br />

Mr Frank Riva, Director, Industry Development<br />

of EPCglobal US shared with technical staff<br />

of GS1 Asia Pacifi c MOs on how EPCglobal<br />
