Trade Organisation (WTO), to jointly<br />
award an internationally recognized<br />
Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain<br />
Management.<br />
Besides Business diplomas, SMa-SOM<br />
has also tied up with e-Supply Chain<br />
Management (e-SCM) council to offer<br />
industrial diploma programmes aimed<br />
at providing practice-oriented training<br />
to our students in exciting fi elds such<br />
as Engineering Management, Logistics<br />
and Supply Chain Management and<br />
<strong>Manufacturing</strong> Management.<br />
All part-time diploma programmes<br />
offered by SMa-SOM are subsidised<br />
by the Government through the Skills<br />
Development Fund (SDF) to encourage<br />
employers to upgrade the skills of their<br />
workers.<br />
SMa-SOM’S RANGE OF BACHELOR<br />
DEGREE PROGRAMMES<br />
One of SMa-SOM’s most popular<br />
programmes is the Bachelor of<br />
Commerce programme awarded by<br />
Murdoch University, Australia’s Top<br />
Ranking University in research and<br />
teaching. Murdoch University’s Bachelor<br />
of Commerce degree offers students<br />
an option to graduate with a Single or<br />
Double Major in Marketing, Management<br />
or Human Resource Management in<br />
December <strong>2005</strong>, SMa-SOM added the<br />
Professional Accounting specialisation<br />
to its Bachelor of Commerce to highlight<br />
the professional qualifi cation. These<br />
courses can be completed in less than<br />
16 months on a part-time basis. SMa-<br />
SOM is currently exploring with Murdoch<br />
University to expand its offering in other<br />
areas such as Media & Marketing and<br />
Business Informatics.<br />
SMa-SOM has also collaborated with<br />
Edith Cowan University (ECU) to offer<br />
the Bachelor of Engineering programme<br />
in <strong>Singapore</strong>. Polytechnic diploma<br />
holders can choose to graduate with a<br />
specialisation in Communication Systems<br />
or Electronic Systems in 2 years. The<br />
laboratory sessions are conducted in<br />
<strong>Singapore</strong>, eliminating the need for<br />
students to travel to Australia.<br />
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH, SAFETY<br />
& SECURITY AND RISK<br />
MANAGEMENT TRAINING<br />
The heightened state of security within<br />
<strong>Singapore</strong> and the region has placed<br />
heavier responsibilities on the government<br />
and the industry to be better prepared for<br />
the challenges and changing landscape in<br />
security management. In recognition of the<br />
demand for trained professionals in the<br />
Security and Safety sectors, SMa-SOM,<br />
through its collaboration with Edith Cowan<br />
University, has successfully launched<br />
a series of security intelligence and<br />
management courses at the postgraduate<br />
level to equip professionals with leadingedge<br />
knowledge in intelligence, security<br />
& risk management and disaster<br />
management.<br />
The Master of Security Management<br />
programme is the one and only course in<br />
security management available in Australia<br />
and <strong>Singapore</strong> offered at the postgraduate<br />
level. It has attracted substantial attention<br />
with featured articles in the media such<br />
as TODAY and Lianhe Zaobao (Chinese<br />
daily). The pioneering cohort in 2004<br />
comprised of professionals and senior<br />
executives from the private and public<br />
sectors.<br />
SMa-SOM will continue to source for<br />
reputable international universities across<br />
Europe, UK and America to offer quality<br />
undergraduate and postgraduate courses.<br />
In the pipeline for 2006 are courses in<br />
Occupational Health and Safety, Logistics,<br />
Strategic Marketing and <strong>Manufacturing</strong><br />
Operations, International Business and<br />
PhD and DBA programmes.<br />
