Nations Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD) and the World
Trade Organisation (WTO), to jointly
award an internationally recognized
Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain
Management.
Besides Business diplomas, SMa-SOM
has also tied up with e-Supply Chain
Management (e-SCM) council to offer
industrial diploma programmes aimed
at providing practice-oriented training
to our students in exciting fi elds such
as Engineering Management, Logistics
and Supply Chain Management and
Manufacturing Management.
All part-time diploma programmes
offered by SMa-SOM are subsidised
by the Government through the Skills
Development Fund (SDF) to encourage
employers to upgrade the skills of their
workers.
SMa-SOM’S RANGE OF BACHELOR
DEGREE PROGRAMMES
One of SMa-SOM’s most popular
programmes is the Bachelor of
Commerce programme awarded by
Murdoch University, Australia’s Top
Ranking University in research and
teaching. Murdoch University’s Bachelor
of Commerce degree offers students
an option to graduate with a Single or
Double Major in Marketing, Management
or Human Resource Management in
December 2005, SMa-SOM added the
Professional Accounting specialisation
to its Bachelor of Commerce to highlight
the professional qualifi cation. These
courses can be completed in less than
16 months on a part-time basis. SMa-
SOM is currently exploring with Murdoch
University to expand its offering in other
areas such as Media & Marketing and
Business Informatics.
SMa-SOM has also collaborated with
Edith Cowan University (ECU) to offer
the Bachelor of Engineering programme
in Singapore. Polytechnic diploma
holders can choose to graduate with a
specialisation in Communication Systems
or Electronic Systems in 2 years. The
laboratory sessions are conducted in
Singapore, eliminating the need for
students to travel to Australia.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH, SAFETY
& SECURITY AND RISK
MANAGEMENT TRAINING
The heightened state of security within
Singapore and the region has placed
heavier responsibilities on the government
and the industry to be better prepared for
the challenges and changing landscape in
security management. In recognition of the
demand for trained professionals in the
Security and Safety sectors, SMa-SOM,
through its collaboration with Edith Cowan
University, has successfully launched
a series of security intelligence and
management courses at the postgraduate
level to equip professionals with leadingedge
knowledge in intelligence, security
& risk management and disaster
management.
The Master of Security Management
programme is the one and only course in
security management available in Australia
and Singapore offered at the postgraduate
level. It has attracted substantial attention
with featured articles in the media such
as TODAY and Lianhe Zaobao (Chinese
daily). The pioneering cohort in 2004
comprised of professionals and senior
executives from the private and public
sectors.
SMa-SOM will continue to source for
reputable international universities across
Europe, UK and America to offer quality
undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
In the pipeline for 2006 are courses in
Occupational Health and Safety, Logistics,
Strategic Marketing and Manufacturing
Operations, International Business and
PhD and DBA programmes.
