Highlights of the event:<br />

Mr Tan Jin Soon, Executive Director<br />

of GS1 <strong>Singapore</strong>, was awarded the<br />

SPRING Outstanding Achievement Award<br />

in Standardisation at the World Standards<br />

Day <strong>2005</strong> Awards Ceremony on 22<br />

September. This new award is presented<br />

in recognition of outstanding contributions<br />

by industry practitioners towards the<br />

<strong>Singapore</strong> Standardisation Programme.<br />

Title: 8 th <strong>Annual</strong> Effi cient Consumer<br />

Response (ECR) Asia Conference<br />

Main Organiser: ECR Hong Kong<br />

Highlights of the event:<br />

This conference, which highlighted the<br />

important collaboration among suppliers,<br />

retailers and logistics operators, attracted<br />

more than 800 delegates from the Asia<br />

Pacifi c region including Brazil, India,<br />

UK and USA. Presentations from<br />

<strong>Singapore</strong> came from ECR <strong>Singapore</strong><br />

which presented on the EPCglobal<br />

Implementation and Mr Tan Jin Soon of<br />

GS1 <strong>Singapore</strong> and Ms Karen Poon of<br />

Unilever <strong>Singapore</strong> Pte Ltd who jointly<br />

presented on the Trial of EPCglobal for<br />

Pallets and Cartons at Warehouse Level.<br />

Field visits covering central warehousing<br />

and fresh food distribution centres were<br />

also arranged for delegates during<br />

the conference.<br />

Title: GS1 Asia Pacifi c Regional<br />

Forum <strong>2005</strong><br />

Main Organiser: GS1 Head Offi ce<br />

Highlights of the event:<br />

The appointment of GS1 <strong>Singapore</strong> to<br />

host the GS1 Asia Pacifi c Regional Forum<br />

<strong>2005</strong> in <strong>Singapore</strong> at a short notice<br />

of seven weeks by GS1 Head Offi ce,<br />

following the bomb attack in Bali, was<br />

truly an honour for GS1 <strong>Singapore</strong>.<br />

This meeting, held from 22 to 24<br />

November <strong>2005</strong> at the Shangri-La’s Rasa<br />

Sentosa Resort Hotel, was attended by<br />

43 delegates from 16 GS1 Asia Pacifi c<br />

MOs. Mr Edwin Khew, Chairman of GS1<br />

<strong>Singapore</strong> and Acting President of SMa<br />

delivered the welcome address, followed<br />

by the opening address by Mr Miguel A.<br />

Lopera, CEO of GS1.<br />

During the two-day meeting, GS1<br />

<strong>Singapore</strong> Executive Director, Mr Tan<br />

Jin Soon made several presentations,<br />

including:<br />

EPCglobal Cook Book / Pilot &<br />

Implementation, EPCglobal Asian<br />

Adoption Program & EPCglobal Pilot<br />

in <strong>Singapore</strong><br />

Implementation of EAN.UCC XML<br />

Standard with product catalogue for<br />

Item Synchronization & GEPIR for<br />

Party Synchronization<br />

The Priority & Strategic Work Plan For<br />

GS1 Asia Pacifi c Region 2006<br />

Promote EPCglobal for Transportation<br />

& Logistics<br />

Among many important issues discussed<br />

during the meeting was the balloting<br />

process to nominate a member from<br />

the Asia Pacifi c region to sit in the GS1<br />

Management Board.<br />

Other Seminars<br />

Besides all the above activities, GS1<br />

<strong>Singapore</strong> also organised numerous<br />

seminars and workshops in <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

These included the RFID Connect Asia<br />

<strong>2005</strong> in February, ECR <strong>Singapore</strong> CEO<br />

Forum in August and the seminar on<br />

New Technical Reference on Cold Chain<br />

Management for Chilled Pork<br />

in September.<br />
