7.5 Safety & Risk Management Policy
Safety and risk management are of the utmost importance and are the
responsibilities of all health employees of the health department. The goal of this agency is
to provide a safe, healthy environment for all employees and members of the public. Each
employee shall therefore make certain that safety equipment is used and that safety
procedures and practices are observed. All employees, but particularly supervisors, have
the responsibility of reporting the existence of any hazardous conditions or practices to the
Health Commissioner. Any employee found to be engaging in unsafe practices shall be
disciplined in accordance with the progressive discipline policy.
Accidents do, nevertheless, occur. Any accident that occurs during normal working
hours shall be reported, in writing, to the immediate supervisor, at once. The supervisor, in
turn, shall notify the Health Commissioner.
Accidents, losses, and other incidents of noncompliance will be regularly reviewed
by management staff in order to establish appropriate safety requirements and risk
management procedures. For the protection of the employees and the public, the Health
Commissioner or persons he assigns shall regularly and continually evaluate job
performance as it relates to safety and health. In addition, employees will be assigned to
attend educational and training courses so that safety practices are updated and improved.
At all times, this agency will encourage the promotion of health and safe work practices
and environment.
