During the last year Hauora Taranaki PHO and Peak Health PHO have
merged into the Midlands Regional Health Network (MRHN).
Te Tihi Hauora o Taranaki PHO has merged into the National Hauora
Coalition (NHC).

Emergency Planning
– Exercise Yarrow
Taranaki DHB has entered into alliance
type arrangements for planning and
funding models of care in Primary Health
Care with both the Midlands Regional
Health Network and the National Hauora
Coalition. The alliances are clinically lead
and have representation from both the
PHO and the DHBs.
Services delivered include GP, nursing and
allied health services focussed on keeping
people well and avoiding admission to
hospital. Service developments include
integrated family health services with
an extended primary care team and
alternative consultation methods using
information technology to improve access
and reduce waiting times.
Exercise Yarrow was a table top
emergency exercise run by Taranaki DHB
using the “Emergo Train System” and was
based on a mass casualty incident in the
community.
The exercise involved 25 participants
representing Fire, Police, Ambulance
and St John. Taranaki DHB staff included
representatives from the Emergency
Department, Duty Managers, Orderlies,
ICU, Theatre and Radiology Services.
Others involved in evaluation were
Midland DHB Emergency Planners,
St John Emergency Planners and the
Ministry of Health Regional Advisor.
Whanau Ora centre developments focus
on delivery of health and social care to
meet the needs of families and whanau.
