During the last year Hauora <strong>Taranaki</strong> PHO and Peak <strong>Health</strong> PHO have<br />

merged into the Midlands Regional <strong>Health</strong> Network (MRHN).<br />

Te Tihi Hauora o <strong>Taranaki</strong> PHO has merged into the National Hauora<br />

Coalition (NHC).<br />

Primary <strong>Health</strong><br />

Organisations<br />

Emergency Planning<br />

– Exercise Yarrow<br />

<strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB has entered into alliance<br />

type arrangements for planning and<br />

funding models of care in Primary <strong>Health</strong><br />

Care with both the Midlands Regional<br />

<strong>Health</strong> Network and the National Hauora<br />

Coalition. The alliances are clinically lead<br />

and have representation from both the<br />

PHO and the DHBs.<br />

Services delivered include GP, nursing and<br />

allied health services focussed on keeping<br />

people well and avoiding admission to<br />

hospital. Service developments include<br />

integrated family health services with<br />

an extended primary care team and<br />

alternative consultation methods using<br />

information technology to improve access<br />

and reduce waiting times.<br />

Exercise Yarrow was a table top<br />

emergency exercise run by <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB<br />

using the “Emergo Train System” and was<br />

based on a mass casualty incident in the<br />

community.<br />

The exercise involved 25 participants<br />

representing Fire, Police, Ambulance<br />

and St John. <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB staff included<br />

representatives from the Emergency<br />

Department, Duty Managers, Orderlies,<br />

ICU, Theatre and Radiology Services.<br />

Others involved in evaluation were<br />

Midland DHB Emergency Planners,<br />

St John Emergency Planners and the<br />

Ministry of <strong>Health</strong> Regional Advisor.<br />

Whanau Ora centre developments focus<br />

on delivery of health and social care to<br />

meet the needs of families and whanau.
