Statement of Service Performance 2011 Annual Report Acute Services (emergency department, inpatient, outpatient) Shorter stays in emergency department Acute readmission rate (per 1000 patients) 94% 95% 96% Achieved 10.40% 10.40% 11.39% Not Achieved For the current Quarter an improvement from 2239 to 1989 re-admissions would be required (250 admissions) assuming consistent volumes of discharges and Case Complexity mix. The trends for the types of admissions that re-admit nationally are generally related to Abdominal Pain, Pulmonary/Respiratory, Poisoning, and other infections. Taranaki DHB see similar trends with higher than national levels. TDHB staff attended the Health Roundtable Workshop in Wellington on May 12, 13 focussing on cardiac and respiratory conditions and variances in Average Length of Stays and readmissions rates. The benchmarking data provided by the Health Roundtable confirms a problem for Taranaki DHB in this area.
