Mock Bedroom and
Operating Theatre
The construction of a mock bedroom and
operating theatre was a unique opportunity for
staff members to have a good look and to see
and touch the real life layout, including fittings
and furnishings of the single, inpatient rooms
with ensuites and theatre units to be included in
the redevelopment.
The staff that will be working in these rooms had
Fletcher Construction
Announced as Main
Contractor
Fletcher Construction has been announced
as the preferred main contractor for Project
Maunga.
“It’s really exciting to be able to announce
another major milestone allowing us to
progress according to our timeline,” said
Tony Foulkes.
“Having completed the building design,
the hard work will continue over the next
two years as we re-design our services to
get the maximum benefit for our patients”.
input that was vital to the design phase. Allied
Health members were able to test equipment in
the room, and the Ambulance Service brought
in stretchers. The Community Advisory Groups,
Disability and Older Person’s Group also offered
their feedback on the room and an open day
for the public was held.
Positive feedback and suggestions for
improvement were well received by the
Project Maunga team with some valuable
changes being made to the final design.
Releasing Time to Care
The DHB has adopted this process to
ensure that Project Maunga is not just
about a new building but also about a
new way of doing things.
The programme is based on the lean
thinking concept and aims to free up
time in our nurses’ day so they can
increase the amount of time they have
for direct patient care and improve the
safety, reliability and efficiency of the care
delivered to the patient.
