Te WHARE PUNANGA KORERO<br />

Māori <strong>Health</strong> Governance Group for <strong>Taranaki</strong><br />

The members of this trust represent the eight iwi of <strong>Taranaki</strong>. The Memorandum of<br />

Understanding between <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB and Te Whare Punanga Korero (TWPK), is the vehicle<br />

through which Māori influence the strategic agenda for improving Māori health outcomes.<br />

Te Whare Punanga Korero interacts with <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB and the wider sector through various<br />

<strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB, NGO and iwi Māori forums to advance its purposes. Some of those interactions<br />

include:<br />

Regular meetings with <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB <strong>Board</strong> Chair, members and DHB<br />

officials to discuss, monitor and develop responses to Māori health<br />

needs<br />

Participation in the <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB’s strategic planning and governance<br />

training<br />

Participation in a range of project-based steering group activities where<br />

projects impact significantly on Māori<br />

Participation in Māori health collective strategic planning for Māori<br />

health gain<br />

An important role of Te Whare Punanga Korero is to work with <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB in achieving the<br />

objectives of our Māori <strong>Health</strong> and Reducing Inequalities Plan and Māori health objectives of<br />

the <strong>Annual</strong> Plan and <strong>District</strong> Strategic Plan.<br />
