Releasing Time to Care
This programme is based on the lean thinking concept and aims to free up time in our
nurses’ day so they can increase the amount of time they have for direct patient care
and improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of the care delivered to the patient.
Areas of focus include:
• Patient status at a glance - setting up patient information that improves
communication, patient experience and patient flow.
• Knowing how we are doing - developing ward based measures to help the team
make informed decisions.
Kaiawhina
St John Ambulance
“Kaiawhina” as navigators in high needs
communities were piloted in 2010. The
number of Kaiawhina was increased from
four half-timers, to six full-timers around
Taranaki.
The role of Kaiawhina is to help whanau
in the communities in which they live,
to navigate their way through the wide
range of services, delivered by a wide
range of providers.
On February 1st, St John was appointed
to provided ambulance services for the
Taranaki region.
The DHB ambulance service had provided
well for local Taranaki communities over
many years.
Taranaki people will continue to be well
serviced by St John who have access
to their nationwide experience and
resources, combined with local staff.
