Staying On
Of the 12 first year house surgeons
employed in 2010, ten were back working
with us this year.
Coming from throughout New Zealand
they were keen to stay because of the
familiarity of systems and staff members
and getting to work in different areas,
such as the Emergency Department and
Paediatrics.
“It’s a great place to work and the hours
are good.”
The DHB received more applications than
they were able to provide posts for.
Project Whakapai
Whakapai is about improvement.
Detailed analysis of our data and
hundreds of interviews with staff have
informed this project.
The project goals are to ensure
planned staffing is in place, to improve
management of staffing costs and
to implement systems & process
improvements to help achieve these.
In addition to aligning budgets to roster
and service needs, training and support
is provided. In a number of areas this has
allowed us to increase permanent staffing
resource and also reduce overall costs.
