Virtual medicine has arrived in <strong>Taranaki</strong>,<br />
allowing patients to connect with<br />
specialists from other areas without<br />
having to travel out of town.<br />
A telemedicine dermatology pilot clinic<br />
has been set up which involves patients<br />
and specialists communicating via<br />
teleconference, enabling health care at a<br />
distance.<br />
Feedback from patients has been<br />
positive, many saying they feel very<br />
comfortable and find it easy to ask<br />
questions using this medium.<br />
<strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB staff have taken the<br />
initiative to support the Family Violence<br />
Intervention Programme (FVIP) by<br />
wearing Family Violence It’s Not OK!<br />
T-shirts one Friday every month.<br />
The Violence Intervention Programme<br />
(VIP) is a national programme funded by<br />
Ministry of <strong>Health</strong> to develop policies,<br />
procedures, systems, supports and<br />
training for staff when family violence<br />
issues become known to health services.
