South Taranaki - Alive with opportunities for better health care
The project took a whole system view of
health care services provided to the people of
South Taranaki. The process included working
with clinicians, community and primary health
services and all those involved with health
to ensure we provide better, sooner, more
convenient health care, within the resources
available.
A steering group included representatives of
Stratford Health Centre
the local community, the DHB and service
providers. A population community health
profile of South Taranaki was developed,
an extensive public and patient
engagement was carried out, and a three
day workshop with clinicians including
doctors, nurses, allied health workers,
pharmacists, and resthome staff was held.
Public consultation on proposed service
improvements began in July.
Immunisation
The DHB, Stratford Health Trust and Stratford
District Council have successfully worked
together to significantly expand the DHB
health centre in Stratford.
The new health centre holds three GP’s,
a Physiotherapy Clinic, Central Taranaki
Audiology, and two independent midwives. The
building is also being used by visiting private
specialists and has a minor surgery room.
A Taranaki Immunisation Strategy Group
that is made up of DHB representatives,
Midland Health Network, Te Tihi
Hauora, Medical Officer of Health,
Paediatrics, Midwives, Plunket, Outreach
Immunisation Services, and Immunisation
Advisory Centre continues to work
together to promote and provide
immunisation services to Taranaki
communities.
The centre has a wide range of DHB services
including Mental Health, District and Public
Health Nursing, Fulford Radiology, visiting
Paediatrics and Orthopaedics, and a new Oral
Health Clinic.
