Examined in a different way, the data were calculated by demographic indicators as
reported by the participants. Urban and suburban results are provided; only two participants
reported demographic environments other than urban or suburban. Table 5b shows average ranks
for each reading practice preferred by teachers in urban and suburban environments. In most
cases, the rankings for most common to least common practice are similar; however, suburban
teachers reported that silent reading is slightly less common and small-group reading is slightly
more common, while the teachers from urban schools reported the opposite.
