3 to 0 cm, very dark brown (l0YR 2/2, moist), forest litter<br />

of needles and twigs of jack pine and black spruce ; extremely<br />

acid ; clear, wavy boundary .<br />

0 to 12 cm, brown (l0YR 5/3, moist), silty clay ; medium<br />

granular to shotty ; slightly sticky, slightly plastic ;<br />

firm when moist, hard when dry ; extremely acid ; clear, wavy<br />

boundary .<br />

12 . to 28 cm, pale brown (l0YR 6/3, moist), silty clay ;<br />

medium subangular blocky ; slightly sticky, slightly plastic ;<br />

firm when moist, hard when dry ; medium acid ; clear, gradual<br />

boundary .<br />

28 to 85 cm, very dark gray (5Y 3/1, moist), clay ; weak<br />

medium subangular blocky to amorphous ; sticky and plastic ;<br />

firm when moist, hard when dry ; mildly alkaline ; abrupt,<br />

wavy boundary .<br />

85 to 110 cm, very dark gray (5Y 3/1, moist), frozen clay .<br />

Orthic Eutric Brunisols*<br />

These Orthic Eutric Brunisols affected by cryoturbation are<br />

found in association with nonsorted circles,<br />

stone stripes and steps<br />

(Plate 7A) . The Bmy horizon often contains blobs of Ah or C materials .<br />

The surface of the soil is<br />

always covered with various amounts of<br />

unsorted stones .<br />
