caring citizens recognize the signs that a<br />
senior may be at risk and how to report their<br />
concerns confidentially via the 24-hour<br />
Seniors’ Help Line. A social worker follows<br />
up with the identified seniors and helps<br />

Social workers partner with seniors in the<br />
community, with community agencies and<br />
with other City <strong>of</strong> Calgary staff to meet the<br />
needs <strong>of</strong> seniors in Calgary. The staff:<br />
• Assist seniors to identify the needs in their<br />
communities and neighbourhoods<br />
• Bring seniors in the community together<br />
to talk about issues that affect them and<br />
services that they may require<br />
• Work with seniors in planning special<br />
projects and events that promote the wellbeing<br />
<strong>of</strong> all seniors in community life<br />
• Assist seniors in advocating for their own<br />
needs<br />
Community workers are also available in<br />
Community & Neighbourhood Offices for<br />
individuals interested in planning community<br />
events or getting together with others to<br />
discuss issues that affect seniors.<br />
