CARE CENTRES
• A care centre (formerly called a nursing
home, auxiliary hospital or long term care
facility) is a health care facility offering a
range of residential, personal, and health
services to persons who are elderly, disabled,
or chronically ill.
• Admission to care centres is based on an
assessment of health and personal care
needs.
• Care centres can be a short-term living
arrangement focused on rehabilitation, convalescence
and strengthening, after which
the client returns to community living.
• Clients can be admitted to a care centre on a
longer term basis when their physical or
mental abilities no longer permit them to
remain at home even with the support of
family and community services.
