TRANSpORTATION<br />
Alberta Government <strong>Services</strong> - Motor Vehicles<br />
• Driver examinations, licenses and registration<br />
<strong>of</strong> vehicles is done exclusively through<br />
private registry agents. A list <strong>of</strong> agents can be<br />
found under License & Registry <strong>Services</strong> in<br />
the Yellow Pages.<br />
• Disabled Parking Permit/License Plate<br />
applications are available from registry<br />
agents. The application must be signed by<br />
a doctor. Parking permits are given to individuals<br />
rather than to vehicles. This means<br />
the permit can be transferred between<br />
vehicles and can be used only when the<br />
disabled person is in the vehicle.<br />
• Medical examinations are required for all<br />
drivers at age 75. If there are no problems,<br />
the license is renewed for five years.<br />
Starting at age 80, medical examinations<br />
are required every two years.<br />

• Drivers can have their operator’s license<br />
suspended or restricted for medical reasons.<br />

• Escorted Transportation: Volunteer drivers<br />
provide one-on-one escorted transportation<br />
to medical appointments or banking<br />
for seniors who are unable to use existing<br />
transportation. One week notice is required<br />
and there is a $10.00 round trip fee<br />
(adjustable depending on circumstances).<br />
• Assisted Shopping: Volunteers are matched<br />
one-on-one with seniors for reoccurring<br />
shopping trips. In addition to providing<br />
transportation, volunteers <strong>of</strong>fer companionship<br />
and social support. Shopping is<br />
not limited to groceries. Any senior can<br />
apply but assistance may be prioritized<br />
by need.<br />

- Senior Citizen Transit Pass<br />
- Route and Schedule Information<br />
• Senior Citizen Transit Pass: A transit pass<br />
issued on a yearly basis (July to June) that<br />
enables those 65 and older to travel on<br />
Calgary Transit without additional payment.<br />
It can be used on bus or CTrain but<br />
not for Access Calgary services. The cost for<br />
the yearly pass is $35 or $15 for seniors<br />
receiving federal guaranteed income<br />
supplement. Application can be made at<br />
the Customer Service <strong>Centre</strong> listed above<br />
or forms can be mailed. Pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> age is<br />
