As a result of the comprehensive clinical audit, the facility/institution may<br />

expect:<br />

—Assistance in improving clinical practice;<br />

—Strengthening of their QA programme;<br />

—Assistance towards ensuring that the requirements for patient protection are met;<br />

—Assistance in the development of local clinical audit programmes;<br />

—Guidance for further development of the facility/institution.<br />

The vision and immediate objectives of the facility/institution should be<br />

clearly stated in the request. The audit process may assist in the achievement of<br />

goals such as:<br />

—Becoming a training centre for a region;<br />

—Soliciting funding from national authorities or other funding bodies<br />

including the <strong>IAEA</strong>.<br />

The request should be prepared in accordance with given application instructions<br />

(the application form is given in Annex I).<br />

The auditing body, the <strong>IAEA</strong>, will communicate the result of the audit<br />

request to the requesting facility/institution. If the request is approved, a proposed<br />

time-line for the audit process will be agreed upon between the facility/institution<br />

and the audit body, subject to the availability of the audit team.<br />

2.2. COMPOSITION OF THE AUDIT TEAM<br />

The audit team will consist of a multidisciplinary peer review panel with<br />

expertise in diagnostic radiology and familiarity with clinical audit methodology.<br />

At least one member of the audit team must be able to interview members of the<br />

audited department in a language they understand. One member of the audit team<br />

will act as the team leader.<br />

The composition of the audit team will depend on the nature of the audit<br />

visit, but will usually include as a minimum:<br />

—A radiologist 2 ;<br />

—A diagnostic radiology medical physicist;<br />

—A radiographer or diagnostic radiology facility manager.<br />
