Development of Information Society in Spain: Mobile phone penetration Mobile phone lines have gone from 37.2 million in 2003 to 54.2 million lines in September 2009, increasing penetration over 26 pp (from 87.1% to 113.6%), above the penetration rates of the EU-25. 3 years ago UMTS became commercially available. Today, there are near 17,3 million mobile broadband lines (source: European Commision). A fourth operator was launched. Internet use via mobile increased tenfold in three years. Development of Information Society in Spain: Internet penetration In 2009, 60.5% of Spaniards are Internet users.
