EITO – ICT forecasts for 2009, November 2008<br />
• With<strong>in</strong> EU’s Big Five, Spa<strong>in</strong> will be the fastest grow<strong>in</strong>g ICT market <strong>in</strong> 2007 - 2009.<br />
• Even <strong>in</strong> the current scenario of <strong>in</strong>ternational economic downturn, the Spanish IT sector will grow by<br />
4.9% over 2008, and 2% <strong>in</strong> 2009.<br />
• Telecoms market expected to grow a comb<strong>in</strong>ed 0.9% <strong>in</strong> 2008 - 2009. Limited impact of the economic<br />
crisis Vs. high deflation rate <strong>in</strong> the sector (-3.5% <strong>in</strong> 2007, more than 7 pp difference with GPI).<br />

• Accord<strong>in</strong>g to the <strong>in</strong>ternational "Anywhere" <strong>in</strong>dex (measur<strong>in</strong>g, among others, the actual capacity of a<br />
country to offer ubiquitous broadband connectivity and users’ adaptation to digital technologies),<br />
“Spa<strong>in</strong> is poised <strong>in</strong> an advantageous situation, thus be<strong>in</strong>g one of the countries which will lead<br />
the change <strong>in</strong> the future’.<br />
• Spa<strong>in</strong> ranks 14th <strong>in</strong> the world <strong>in</strong> terms of fixed and mobile broadband availability and is situated<br />
with<strong>in</strong> the group of “lead<strong>in</strong>g countries <strong>in</strong> this transformation process towards ubiquitous<br />
societies”.<br />
• In 2012, Yankee Group forecasts that Spa<strong>in</strong> will have surpassed countries such as France,<br />
Belgium or Canada. <strong>The</strong>se will keep <strong>in</strong> the group of “countries under transformation”, while<br />
Spa<strong>in</strong> will be part, together with others like the United States, United K<strong>in</strong>gdom or Japan, of the group<br />
of “fully ubiquitous countries”.<br />
