European Innovation Scoreboard, 2008. Broadband access by firms help to improve
Spanish SII indicator performance
• According to the European Summary Innovation Index (SII), Spain belongs to the “moderate innovator”
group, even though it ranks below EU average.
• Broadband access by firms is one of the variables helping to improve the Spanish index of innovation.
In fact, it turns out to be the variable experiencing the highest increase since 2003, namely a 15.3%
(EU average amounts to 2.1%).

• Spanish mobile communications market is undergoing a profound transformation: leader operators are
shifting the focus from the terminal subsidization to a outstanding decrease in the price per minute,
given the strong price sensitivity of subscribers.
• With the new offers, main operator prices are in line with virtual mobile operators.
