<strong>NTUC</strong> May Day Awards 2013 Citations<br />
COMRADE OF LABOUR AWARD<br />
Abdullah Shafiie Mohamed Sidik<br />
Nominated by Singapore Airport Terminal Services Workers’ Union<br />
Brother Abdullah Shafiie Mohamed Sidik joined the Singapore Air<br />
Transport Workers’ Union (SATU) in 1980, serving as a Youth Committee<br />
member and Union Shop Steward in the Maintenance Division.<br />
As one of the founding members of the Pro-tem Committee set up in 1984,<br />
Brother Shafiie was later elected Assistant General Secretary when the<br />
house union was formed in 1985, a position he continues to hold today.<br />
He ensured the smooth transfer of members from SATU to the Singapore<br />
Airport Terminal Services Workers’ Union (SATSWU), set the direction of<br />
the new union, and contributed to the growth in membership.<br />
Approachable and sincere, he has helped to establish close<br />
communication with members, as well as mobilise them to<br />
participate in activities organised by <strong>NTUC</strong>.<br />
Respected by both the management<br />
and union members, Brother<br />
Shafiie has played a vital role<br />
in developing good labourmanagement<br />
relations.<br />
He ensures that workers<br />
are treated fairly in the<br />
workplace, and fairly<br />
rewarded when the<br />
company performs well.<br />
Approachable<br />
Brother Shafiie has contributed in various<br />
SATSWU’s committees, such as Welfare,<br />
Education and Training, Collective Agreement<br />
Negotiations, Dinner & Dance, Scholarship, and Care<br />
and Share. He was involved in the <strong>NTUC</strong> Welfare Committee for<br />
eight years, and is currently an alternate member in the <strong>NTUC</strong><br />
International Relations Committee.<br />
In recognition of his positive contributions to SATSWU and<br />
fellow workers, the National Trades Union Congress is<br />
pleased to present Brother Abdullah Shafiie Mohamed<br />
Sidik with the Comrade of Labour Award.<br />
