COMRADE OF LABOUR AWARD
William Leow Hock Lim
Nominated by Singapore Union of Broadcasting Employees
Brother William Leow Hock Lim has been
with the Labour Movement for 30 years and
was elected to the Executive Committee
of the Singapore Union of Broadcasting
Employees (SUBE) in 2000. Since then,
Brother William has served in different
capacities as the Second Vice-President,
First Vice-President; and currently the
General Treasurer.
Brother William’s amicable
nature and strong understanding
of both the company’s and members’
needs enabled him to engage the
management effectively and roll out key
initiatives such as the Shorter Work Week
during the 2009 recession to save jobs,
and up-skilling of workers in the High Definition
production and editing department.
In the area of leadership development, in line with NTUC 3-Flow Model, Brother
William was instrumental in engaging young potential professionals, managers and
executives members, and has successfully flowed in three young leaders into the
union’s committee.
On membership growth and engagement, Brother William actively organises
recruitment drives and events, such as lunch talks and overseas durian trips, to reach
out to both members and non-members.
An avid supporter of NTUC Club’s U Sports initiative, Brother William participated in
soccer and golf tournaments; and provides advisory support to the U Sports Committee
since 2009.
Brother William has also served in the NTUC Membership Committee, and is currently
serving in both the NTUC Workplace Safety & Health Committee and the NTUC
Infocomm and Media Cluster.
In recognition of his positive contributions to SUBE and fellow workers, the National
Trades Union Congress is pleased to present Brother William Leow Hock Lim with the
Comrade of Labour Award.
