Sankaradass Sankarapandi Chami
Nominated by Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union
Brother Sankaradass Sankarapandi Chami started in
the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) as
a Branch Official 11 years ago, rising through the ranks to
become an Executive Council member within four years.
Mobilises
Due to his outstanding leadership qualities and relentless
dedication to union work, he earns respect from all around
and was elected to Assistant General Secretary in 2008, and
Deputy General Secretary in 2012.
As the Branch Secretary of
the Cold Storage Branch,
Brother Sankaradass has
helped to build a solid labourmanagement
relationship.
Through his experience in
handling industrial relations
matters, the branch has been
effective in handling grievance
cases expeditiously. In addition,
Brother Sankaradass readily
mobilises members and actively
seeks support from the management
for union events whenever it take place.
As Chairman of FDAWU Membership Committee, and
a member of NTUC Membership Committee, Brother
Sankaradass is highly motivated in increasing union
membership. Often a key driver in membership recruitments
and organising new branches, he was instrumental in
unionising St Regis hotel in 2011. Under his leadership,
membership grew beyond 42,000 in 2012.
Brother Sankaradass is also a member of the NTUC
Hospitality and Consumer Business Cluster, where he actively
provides his valuable insights of the retail sector and lends
support to the cluster’s initiatives.
In recognition of his positive contributions to FDAWU and
fellow workers, the National Trades Union Congress is
pleased to present Brother Sankaradass Sankarapandi
Chami with the Comrade of Labour Award.
