PLAQUE OF COMMENDATION AWARD
Showa Denko has worked closely with the United Workers of Electronics & Electrical Industries
(UWEEI), enjoying excellent labour-management relations and settling issues amicably based on trust and
communication.
During the economic downturn in 2009, the company consulted the union, adopted the Tripartite
Guidelines for Managing Excess Manpower and sent its staff for Skills Programme for Upgrading and
Resilience (SPUR) courses.
An avid supporter of NTUC initiatives, the company embarked on the Inclusive Growth Programme for
the merger of its two manufacturing plants to improve productivity. Through this programme, the company reduced its operation cost, and this has directly
benefitted its workers in the form of rewards and recognition.
Showa Denko has also been working closely with the NTUC Electronics & Precision & Machinery
Engineering Cluster to implement the Place-and-Train programme, aimed at placing 100 employees
in technical and engineering positions. The company has responded to the union’s advocacy of a
Singaporean Core, making substantial salary revisions to various job categories to attract locals to join
the company.
Showa Denko has always been a supporter of UWEEI’s initiatives and activities. The company has contributed to UWEEI’s Annual Dinner, and is also an
early adopter of the enhanced family package. The management has participated in union-organised events to get to know members and be kept abreast
of the latest union developments.
In recognition of its positive contributions to the Labour Movement, the National Trades Union Congress
is pleased to present Showa Denko HD Singapore Pte Ltd with the Plaque of Commendation Award.
